This lecture is proudly presented by CTEC, The University of Western Australia. This lecture will provide information about:
The Role of Surgery; The Role of Multidisciplinary Assessment; Novel Techniques: Duodenal - Jejunal Bypass Sleeve, VBLOC and Gastric Plication; Gastric Band versus Sleeve Gastrectomy at five years.
The Keynote Speakers are:
Winthrop Professor Jeffrey Hamdorf - Winthrop Professor of Surgical Education; Director, CTEC; Head, School of Surgery, The University of Western Australia.
Professor J Hamdorf is an Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon. His special interests are in Upper GI Surgery including laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy for the management of morbid obesity, panreato-billiary & oesophago-gastric surgery, diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopic anti reflux surgery and general surgery.
Professor James Toouli - MBBS, PhD, FRACS
Professor Toouli has an active clinical interest in digestive surgery, in particular, the biliary tract and pancreas. He pioneered interventional ERCP in Adelaide. He has an interest in bariatric surgery and has introduced the Swedish adjustable gastric band into Australia for the management of obesity.

This course is aimed at Pre-SET Trainees in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology and Cardiothoracics, plus Metro & Rural GP's in the role of assisting in minimal access surgery. Basic Surgical Skills course
This course has been developed with King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) in Perth for WA Trainees. This course is compulsory for all first year registrars training in Gynaecology. In addition, experienced residents may apply to attend (availability of places depends on numbers of inter-state bookings) RANZCOG state that even if you have attended as a resident, it is mandatory to attend as a registrar as well.
