European Expert in Interventional Pulmonology visits CTEC at the University of Western Australia
CTEC held the Advances in Interventional Pulmonolgy Workshop on Wednesday the 7th October - Friday 9th October 2009. Consultant Respiratory Physicians and Advanced Trainees from around Australia attended this full course. Interventional Pulmonolgy is an area that is developing rapidly with new techniques directed at the diagnosis of lung lesions, the staging of lung cancer, the sampling of mediastinal and hilar nodes, the mechanical treatment of emphysema, possible therrmoplastic approaches to asthma, as well as more traditional treatments of airway obstruction by stenting or ablation procedures. The course covered many of these new procedures and was very practical and hands on.
CTEC was fortunate to have Professor Felix JF Herth, Chief Physician at the Thoraxklinic, Heidelberg University, Germany, as our guest speaker. While at CTEC Professor Herth presented a one-hour Raine Lecture entitled "The Way to the Mediastinum". The course also included a live link to Professor Herth's teaching hospital in Heidelberg, Germany where participants viewed an endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) procedure take place on a patient.
CTEC acknowledges the support of The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, The Raine Foundation, Olympus Australia, Storz, Boston Scientific, Wolf, Endocorp, Aurora Bioscience, Medtel, RocketMedical, Stenning, Medical Vision Australia.
