Clinical Associate Professor Hairul Ahmad is a Consultant Upper GI and General Surgeon and Clinical Associate Professor with CTEC and The University of Western Australia’s Medical School. 

Associate Professor Ahmad has been extensively involved with surgical education over several years and has designed, convened and instructed on a number of CTEC’s laparoscopic surgery workshops for junior doctors and surgeons-in-training. He is also involved in teaching final year medical students at The University of Western Australia. Associate Professor Ahmad is interested in the role of AI and mobile devices in surgical education, as well as non-technical skills in surgical education.

A graduate of Monash Medical School in Victoria, Australia, Associate Professor Ahmad is an Australian fellow in:

• Emergency Medicine – with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM)
• General Surgery – with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS)

Associate Professor Ahmad has also completed sub speciality training in:

• Upper Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Surgery – with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with further training in England.
• Endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic) – with the Gastroenterology Society of Australia (GESA).

Associate Professor Ahmad has completed his Master In Surgery programme in the topic of Laparoscopic Surgical Courses at The University of Western Australia. His dedication to surgical education at CTEC was recognised recently with the conferral of CTEC Diamond Convenor status.
