I have had the privilege of being the director at CTEC since 2007. CTEC certainly looked different in those days, running high fidelity anaesthetic simulation courses and establishing a role in surgical simulation. However the story begins even earlier, following the bold decision in the late 1990s by The University of Western Australia to develop this large facility. The original plan was to develop a centre which would meet the needs of Western Australia. The end result has far exceeded our expectations.
Our state of the art facilities have allowed us to deliver courses relevant to Western Australian healthcare workers, ensuring they remain ahead of the curve. We continue to offer education, skills and training to the full range of the health community. Medical students, junior doctors, nurses, dentists, podiatrists and surgeons at all levels, from early training to qualification and onwards, access CTEC for professional development.
Medical education has evolved into a true professional continuum. Doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers, from university to retirement, can return to the University to take advantage of opportunities to maintain and learn new skills, and importantly, to teach others.
The 25th Anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary input from our CTEC team, wonderfully generous faculty and of course, our dedicated participants - proudly marking this significant milestone.
