This cadaveric, ASPS endorsed CTEC workshop offers a rare opportunity for world class training in the latest advances in plastic reconstructive surgery. A post-Congress workshop for the Perth-based 1 to 3 May 2026 RACS Annual Scientific Congress, it will feature the expertise of renowned International Expert Guest Faculty Professor Joon Pio Hong (South Korea).

About

A globally recognised leader in plastic and reconstructive surgery, Professor Hong will showcase international advances in complex flap reconstructions.  

Professor Hong is the President of the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ulsan College of Medicine and Asan Medical Centre.

The workshop aims to increase participant anatomical knowledge and the acquisition of technical skills in complex surgical approaches, nerve identification and the raising and use of flaps in plastic surgery for the head and neck and orthopaedic trauma defects.  
 

Workshop Content

Each station will offer a dedicated cadaveric model for two participants, who will benefit from practising procedures in CTEC’s highly supportive and authentic clinical environment. 

Morning Demonstration and Dissection Cadaveric Session - Soft Tissue Flaps with Professor JP Hong:

  • TDAP/Free TPF flap
  • Lateral arm flap/RAFF
  • MSAT/ALT (demonstration)
  • Fibula Free flap (dissection)

Afternoon Cadaveric Demonstration and Dissection Session - Bone Flaps with Professor JP Hong:

  • Scapular/Parascapular Free Flap Harvest and dissection (with inset options)
  • DCIA flap/MFC

Professor Joon Pio (JP) Hong serves as President for WRSM  (World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery), is the immediate past president of Korean Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and he is an active member of a number of professional associations such as American Society of Plastic Surgery, the Korean Society of Plastic Surgery and others.

His major work has been research and clinical practice in wound healing, diabetic foot & lower extremity reconstruction, lymphedema and supermicrosurgery. He has performed more than 5500 microsurgery procedures including 800 cases of lymphedema. He is the Emeritus Editor-in-Chief for Archives of Plastic Surgery and serves on the editorial board for numerous journals including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, International Wound Journal, Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Journal of Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery and more. He has been invited over 80 countries to present his work and travelled as visiting professor for more than 140 institutions. He has over 290 publications in this field of practice with 28 book chapters including the Neligan Plastic Surgery and co-authored 5 books including Lower Extremity Reconstruction.
