About
This advanced level workshop aims to equip Rural Generalists with surgical credentialling and Rural Generalist Surgical Trainees with a reliable foundation in procedural skills, which in turn supports a greater level of service to patients in rural and remote communities. These practitioners should have access to appropriate levels of equipment and operating facilities. It does not provide certification of competence in any of the procedures outlined and practised.
Workshop Content
Procedures are first covered by a didactic presentation followed by a practical cadaveric session with only two participants per station. Each participant will have access to dedicated cadaveric materials.
Presentation and Practical Cadaveric Sessions:
- Open appendicectomy
- Open bowel repair (closing an enterotomy)
- Umbilical hernia
- Dissection to display inguinal and femoral triangle
- Stomal care
- Scrotal exploration (urgent torsion and elective hydrocele)
- Vasectomy
- Management of acute and recurrent ingrown toenail
- Management of subungual haematoma
- Surgical management of reducible and non-reducible hammer toe deformities
