The Cutting Edge: Proceduralist Obstetrics and Gynaecological Skills

Workshop

This is a hands-on skills training workshop utilising simulation models. The Cutting Edge: Proceduralist Obstetrics and Gynaecological Skills workshop is designed to assist GP Proceduralists and GP Obstetricians in attaining an improved level of confidence in gynaecological and obstetric procedures. This workshop may be of particular interest to rural and remote medical practitioners holding a Diploma of the RANZCOG (DRANZCOG). Limited places are also available for KEMH Registrars in Gynaecological Surgery.

Suitable for: GP Proceduralists, GP Obstetricians, particularly medical practitioners with a DRANZCOG qualification. Limited places are available for King Edward Memorial Hospital Registrars in Gynaecological Surgery.

About

This is a hands-on skills training workshop utilising simulation models. The Cutting Edge: Proceduralist Obstetrics and Gynaecological Skills workshop is designed to assist GP Proceduralists and GP Obstetricians in attaining an improved level of confidence in gynaecological and obstetric procedures. Limited places are also available for KEMH Registrars in Gynaecological Surgery. This workshop will also feature debates, discussions and presentations on current gynaecological topics and devices.

Workshop participants will return to their practice with newly acquired knowledge and the confidence to perform procedures practised under supervision in a realistic setting. It does not provide certification of competence in any of the procedures outlined and practised.

Workshop Content

Presentation and Animal Tissue
Practical Sessions:

  • Electrodiathermy, surgical safety
  • Rectal repair
  • Enterotomy and cystotomy repair
  • Perineal repair - third and fourth degree tears
  • Bartholin cyst

Presentation and Practical Sessions: 

  • Pelvic Anatomy
  • Knot tying
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Hysteroscopy
  • Endometrial biopsy
  • Post-partum haemorrhage
  • Practical issues for caesarean sections
  • Fetal pillow and B Lynch suture
  • Presentation: Forceps and Vacuum Deliveries

Training Grants:
The Australian Government is offering training grants of $2000 per day to rural and remote procedural and emergency medicine GPs to maintain their respective skills. For further information contact:

Accreditations or CPD Approvals

This workshop is an approved activity in the RACGP CPD Program for the 2023-2025 Triennium. It is approved for 2.5 hours in Educational Activities and 6 hours in Reviewing Performance. This workshop is eligible for a 1 day Rural Procedural Grant in Obstetrics and Surgery.
Approved in the ACRRM CPD Program for the 2023-2025 Triennium for 7 Core PDP hours in the Learning Areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery and Procedural Skills.
