This workshop aims to assist rural GPs and GP Proceduralists and Rural Generalists whose practice includes more extensive management of acute and chronic injuries.  Some suturing experience is recommended for participants to benefit from the procedural sessions.

Demonstration and Practical Sessions:

• Abrasions and abscesses 
• Simple lacerations and glue
• Difficult lacerations
• Lipoma and cyst removal
• Wounds in difficult places
• Skin biopsy
• Facial wounds:
  • Skin tear
  • Linear cut
  • Animal bites
  • Avulsion

Practical Sessions:

• Lateral canthotomy
• Free suturing

Presentations:

• Foreign bodies (simple)
• Treatment options for abscesses
• Wound care and minor trauma incorporating minor burns
• Treatment options for abrasions, clean and ragged lacerations
• Bandaging techniques
• Managing hypertrophic and keloid scarring
• Removing foreign bodies from eyes (advanced)

Workshop Inclusions

Training Grants

The Australian Government is offering training grants of up to $2000 per day to rural and remote procedural and emergency medicine GPs to maintain their respective skills.
