About
This is a hands-on two-day skills training workshop utilising simulation models. The Cutting Edge: Proceduralist Obstetrics and Gynaecological Skills workshop is designed to assist GP Proceduralists, GP Obstetricians and Rural Generalists in attaining an improved level of confidence in gynaecological and obstetric procedures. This workshop will also feature debates, discussions and presentations on current gynaecological topics and devices.

Dates
Overview
Workshop participants will return to their practice with newly acquired knowledge and the confidence to perform procedures practised under supervision in a realistic setting. It does not provide certification of competence in any of the procedures outlined and practised.
Workshop Content
Day 1 Presentation and Practical Sessions:
- Pelvic anatomy
- Hand ties
- Electrodiathermy
- Hysteroscopy including endometrial biopsy
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Rectal repair - partial and full thickness
- Enterotomy and cystotomy repair
- Perineal repair - third and fourth degree tears
- Bartholin cyst
Day 2 Presentation and Practical Sessions:
- Cervical effacement and cerclage
- Assisted deliveries: Forceps & vacuum deliveries, Fetal pillow
- Management of post-partum haemorrhage, uterine massage and postnatal care
- Difficult deliveries: B-lynch suture, balloon tamponade, shoulder dystocia, breach presentation
- Presentation: Peri-mortem Caesarean
Training Grants
The Australian Government is offering training grants of up to $2000 per day to rural and remote procedural and emergency medicine GPs to maintain their respective skills.
